Before working with Brandon Grimes’ vocal lessons I’d struggled for years to understand and find a healthy way to develop my voice. I’d ingrained harmful habits into my practice techniques, I had little vocal confidence, and I had no idea how to choose appropriate songs for my repertoire. Now, a little more than a year after beginning regular lessons with Brandon, he’s helped me to transform my skillset. Not only has Brandon taught me to undo harmful habits, he’s helped me work through mental blocks, find appropriate repertoire, and develop my range. As a teacher, Brandon is kind, encouraging, and understanding, while still holding his students accountable and expecting us to reach our full potential. Brandon has unparalleled knowledge and skill when it comes to the inter-workings of the voice, and how best to safely expand a young singer’s range and abilities. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had the chance to work with him. Through Brandon’s thoughtful and knowledgable teaching methods, I’ve quite literally found my voice.

Brandon Grimes' caring and joyful instruction helped me feel like I had the vocal power and ability all along, it just needed some outside ears to shape it. Musical auditions always make me incredibly nervous, but Brandon is so kind and encouraging that I feel ten times more confident walking into an audition after working with him!

Brandon Grimes is genuinely the best vocal teacher I have ever had, and I am so happy to call myself one of his students. He has helped my sound and technique grow so much, as well as guided and pushed me towards vocal accomplishments I would have thought to be impossible before working with him. He is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with.

Brandon teaches students of all levels, from beginners to professionals. In voice lessons, Brandon uses classical voice foundations to help his students sing any style his students want! Students learn to improve breath control, expand range and navigate voice registers, and gain greater ease of sound. He studied pedagogy under Freda Herseth and Joey Evans, and still works closely with his mentor Caroline Helton at University of Michigan. As a teacher he brings warmth and support, as well as a rigorous approach. Students will learn to better understand their instrument and know how to teach themselves! Brandon also teaches music theory and sight reading. Reach out below to inquire about lessons!
